Fossil Free Faculty

Fossil Free University has an all-star lineup of experts and activists from Africa, North America, South America, Asia, and Europe. All are experts in the field, dedicated activists, and veterans of the climate movement.

Bobby Peek is director of groundWork, a nonprofit environmental justice and developmental organization working primarily in South Africa, but increasingly in Southern Africa.

Bill McKibben is a founder of the grassroots climate campaign 350.org and the Schumann Distinguished Professor in Residence at Middlebury College in Vermont.

EarthRights International

Ka Hsaw Wa is Co-founder and Executive Director of EarthRights International, and a member of the Karen ethnic nationality from Myanmar (Burma).

Third World Network

Meenakshi “Meena” Raman is the President of Sahabat Alam Malaysia, Legal Advisor to Consumers Association of Penang and Coordinator of Third World Network’s Climate Change Programme.

Fossil Free Media

Jamie Henn is the director of Fossil Free Media, a non-profit media lab that supports the movement to end fossil fuels. He also leads communications for the Stop the Money Pipeline campaign which is working to end the financing of climate destruction.

Steve Kretzmann

Oil Change International

Stephen Kretzmann has campaigned for social and environmental justice since first getting involved in anti-apartheid solidarity work as a student. He founded Oil Change in 2005, where he built an organization with hundreds of thousands of supporters and a global team of campaigners. He resigned from OCI in 2020 and is now considering his next steps.

Annie Leonard is the Executive Director of Greenpeace USA. Leonard began her career at Greenpeace in 1988 and has returned to help the organization inspire and mobilize millions of people to take action to create a more sustainable future together.

Matt Remle has been involved with community organizing around social and environmental justice issues since the 1990s, including organizing around Washington State’s raising the minimum wage initiative, against the WTO when it met in Seattle, opposing the Iraq War, supporting efforts to free Leonard Peltier, against the Patriot Act, and more.

Marco oversees ERI’s use of legal strategies to work with communities around the world in protecting their human rights and their environment.

Juliana Bravo Valencia is a Colombian lawyer specializing in human rights. She has received various diplomas and courses in International Human Rights Law and the Inter-American System of Human Rights.

Kumi Naidoo is a life-long social justice campaigner hailing from South Africa. He became deeply embedded in activism in his local community and organising mass mobilisations against the apartheid regime.

Fossil Free University

Kenny Bruno is the Curriculum Coordinator and Dean of FFU. He recently published AOK v Trumputini (2019) , a children’s book about how a young Latina activist from Brooklyn takes down a lying president of the United States with the help of a Jewish Atheist Socialist Congressman.

Nnimmo Bassey’s indefatigable work with national and international organizations has turned him into one of Africa’s leading advocates and campaigners for the environment and human rights. Bassey has stood up against the practices of multinational corporations in his country and the environmental devastation they leave behind destroying the lives and ignoring the rights of the local population.

Equation Campaign

Katie Redford is the Co-Founder of EarthRights International and Director of the Equation Campaign. At the Equation Campaign, she leads strategy on ending oil and gas expansion in the United States and seeking environmental justice and power for frontline communities.

Annie Plotkin Madrigal

Equation Campaign

Annie is the Head Cheerleader for FFU and the Program Manager at the Equation Campaign, where she helps bring the organization’s many projects to fruition.

Ayisha Siddiqa Ayisha Siddiqa is a 21-year-old Pakistani Climate justice advocate living in Coney Island, NY, a coastal area highly prone to hurricanes and floods. She is a co-founder of Polluters Out and the Executive Director of Student Affairs at FFU. She also happens to be a third-year college student studying political science and creative writing. On Sept 20th, 2019 she helped mobilize and lead over 300,000 students onto the streets of Manhattan demanding their governments take climate action. Her advocacy focuses on climate justice and racial justice for BIPOC.

Jesse works as a consultant in the education, sustainability, and public health fields. His clients range from international non-profits and academic institutions to small start-ups and thought leaders.
